![]() Some games have a "speed" options like sierra ones. It's not like the game is sped up or plays to fast. The games still keep their native frame rates, just loading times are faster. I just wanted a speed boost and that one did it. Tweaking more core settings created to many problems. Again I ONLY TWEAKED THAT ONE SETTING it's default is at 1000 i think and maxes at 9000. Once you tweak the cpu setting games run great and start in like 2 seconds. Give it a second to start, with the default core settings it can take 20-30 seconds for a game to start as the defaults are a very slow cpu. Should run fine provided it calls an exe. Lastly load RA, then load the dosbox core, then load content and choose the new conf file you just made "nf". Now take the template conf file we made in the (H:\Emulation\Retroarch\system\DOSbox) and copy and paste it into the LSL5 dir (H:\Emulation\Retroarch\DosGames\LSL5) name it nf and copy the autoexec settings into it at the bottom(changing the file paths to match yours). You can copy and paste those lines "change the file paths to match your game paths (RA likes to keep dos games in the RA root dir for example "H:\Emulation\Retroarch\DosGames\LSL5"). then cd into the lsl5 dir, then call the seirra.exe file. In this example we just need to mount the games dir as the root of the c: for the virtual dos environment. Now note the settings the "#" sings are comments. In that archive you will see a file called "nf" open it and it is almost identical to the one you created with "config -wcd" Grab your copy of "Leisure Suit Larry 5 - Passionate Patti Does a Little Undercover Work (1991)" in this example from exo. This is were the magic happens so to speak. Notice at the bottom there is an section. This file will appear in the DOSbox folder you created.Ĭlose RA and open this file in your editor of choice. Then type this command "config -wcd" that will create a standard config file we can use as a template for any games we want. ![]() This will make dosbox error out and drop you to a prompt. Update the dosbox core, Then load it, and do a load content in RA, pick some random text file on your pc. In my case I created "H:\Emulators\Retroarch\System\DOSBox" Make a dir in the RA system directory called "DOSbox". these keys should not have any conflicts) Make sure it works in RA (Soft-bug is right about keystrokes, but luckily we only have to type things into the interface one time to create the template config file. ![]() Plug a keyboard into your computer first. For Dosbox the full dos exe and all files need to be there. Some of the games "Around" are scummvm specific, and scummvm is the actually exe for those. This is from memory please excuse any errors:įirst make sure your game folder has an exe file in it. Really simple once you understand this simple quirk of the emulator. Basically mounting a folder as the c: and then calling the game from there. If you watch a dosbox basics video on youtube you will see a small amount of mounting has to be done on each run. bat file that is run automatically when called. The bottom of these files contains basically a. I am just loading the core manually, then loading content and selecting a preconfigured conf file. I have not tried dosbox with rlaunhcer yet. Just sierra games run better in the dosbox core so I play them there. I am using the same video and shader settings from my scummvm RA core guide in the retroarch module post (1080p,30:17,scanlines). But i would NOT change that setting until you get your first game working. I set mine to like 6000 and games run very well and all the sierra speed functions work very well. Also by default the cpu speed is set low on this core, I think the default core value is 1000 the max is 9000. I will get my exact settings and post a guide later. I have played a few of exo games this way, but only sierra point and click adventure ones. Then you call the config file (instead of the exe) with RA and it loads wonderfully. The trick is to create a config file for each game. ![]() I have very minimal issues with dosbox and RA for my basic needs.
